We are changing our hosting provider and wondered if it is possible to have the radius server public-facing and drop the RB1100 and PPtPs links? We are using DMA Softlab’s Raduis Manager.
Current NW topology:
Proposed NW topology:
I changed the IP in the radius entry on an RB750 (and every where else the private radius IP was listed) at a remote site to the public IP of the radius server but am unable to authenticate via our login page. The message is Radius server is not responding. The radius server can be pinged and I turned its firewall off during testing. Before I spend any more time on this I thought I’d ask your opinions in case what I am trying to acheive is not possible.
Have you added a clients.conf on the radius server to allow it to authenticate NAS devices coming in from the internet?
Its totally possible, as thats how we do it , although we are now using PPTP and RB;s for the very purpose of remote management ( but Radius traffic still comes over the net)
I believe that the clients.conf is modified by our radius manager software when a NAS is added. Here’s the contents - 92.18.96.238 is the RB I’m testing from.
Ports 1812-1813 are open on the Radius servers firewall.
radiusd -X:
Listening on authentication address * port 1812
Listening on accounting address * port 1813
Listening on command file /usr/local/var/run/radiusd/radiusd.sock
Listening on proxy address * port 1814
Ready to process requests.
I’m testing on a dynamic IP so the client.conf has changed to:
When I try to login I get the following from the radiusd -X debug screen. The user apears to authenticate ok (shown in bold) but the NAS is not recognised (shown in red):
