I want to buy this dual gbit lan mainboard http://global.msi.com.tw/index.php?func=proddesc&prod_no=254&maincat_no=1
Can’t see it in the 2.9 HCL

or 3.0

A lot of new mainbords come with this Gbit Lan chip, from DFI and MSI.
if it’s not supported in v3 then apparently it’s not supported by linux. maybe you can send us your supout.rif file and we will look at it, but I can’t guarantee it will be possible to make it work
I didnt buy it yet…
I’ve read in v.3 manual :
RealTek RTL8169
Chipset type: RealTek RTL8169 PCI 10/100/1000Base
Compatibility:
- RealTek RTL8169 Gigabit Ethernet (not recommended: may lock up the router)
Is this still valid???
that’s old and wrong. the chipset is fine.
Watch your buss speed as well on them. If they are on-board then I would not worry, but I have seen some 32bit 33mhz 4port GigE cards out there. Seeing that the max speed of that bus is 1.06gig, won’t do you much good if you are looking at gigabit speeds in and out. The 1000 is going to be coming out, however in the US we haven’t seen it just yet. There are a whole host of other options, PC based systems as well as PoweRouter 732s. Its really up to how much you want to spend.
Most x86 system processors will be able to support the performance you need though.
