isolating and identifying users using p2p

Hello,

first a little background: we are a small ISP and as such are providing networkinfrastructure and internetaccess to a multitude of users. Some of them use p2p networks which yields us lots of cease and desist orders. One location in particular stands out and produces one such order per week.

My questions:

How would you go about the problem technically? How would you isolate and identify the users using p2p for illegal filesharing? Is it even possible to do this using routerOS solely? would you do it at all?

best regards

SORRY FOR MY ENGLISH… I HOPE YOU DO NOT MISUNDERSTAND WHAT I WANT WRITE!!!

If user pay you for Internet connection, you do not have any right for sniff, block or reduce any type of traffic, also because you are not one police officer.

Abou your question: I stop any belligerance with P2P and the only thing I priorityze on my network are VoIP.
I not understand why you are damaged by P2P. You not limit bandwidth for each user?

If you have 10M and sell it to 100 people, what did you aspect?
But you must explain if I’m wrong from this supposition.

rextended do you use CALEA package for sniffing traffic ?

NO IS ILLEGAL ON MY CONUTRY!!! (for the privacy law)

>>> AND ALSO ON ALL EUROPEAN UNION COUNTRY <<<

The only thing I MUST do for the police is logging (you can see other post where I describe how I do that) the user connection on this form:

2014/07/14 06:45:10 UTC TCP 1.2.3.4:56 → 7.8.9.0:12
2014/07/14 06:46:20 UTC GRE 1.2.3.4 → 7.8.9.0
2014/07/14 06:47:12 UTC UDP 1.2.3.4:59 → 7.8.9.0:17

And for absurd I can not acces this logging, except when police ask me the log…

Rextneded thnx for reply.

To answer your question, as a policy we do not restrict our networks no port or bandwidth based restrictions as long as the customer or the network doesn’t demand it. Whether or not we have the right to do anything wasn’t the question anyways. I want to know what the options are and how others go about the issue.
