Ok so here is how my story goes.
I have a mikrotik router and a /30 subnet now I’ve had it working for 3 years with no issues. I continue not to have issues but I have found a new way to configure my setup. My question for anyone is how do you guys use your subnet with your router (assuming you have a subnet from your isp). The reason why I’m asking this is because my setup works when it should not be working. So in summary my questions are can someone explain how they have their subnet configured and can someone explain why my setup works.
Here is my config My pppoe session get a 69.165 which all internal clients are natted behind. Now my /30 is the 173 address and the only thing I need for them to work is to port forward. My old setup used to have them in the address list set to the interface pppoe-out1 and it used to work fine but somehow I discovered that they don’t even need to be assigned to an interface and that if I just port forward them it works fine. Also on the inside when I do a tracert to google I get 10.0.0.5 as my default gateway shouldn’t it show my public ip as my default gateway? Why did the setup work both ways and why is it working now. This setup is not how most people do it I assume.
