I am having some issues adding a MikroTik cAP XL to an existing network. I have configured it in Router mode with the POE adapter connected and the Data side connected to my switch. Since my DHCP is handled by the modem, I have the cAP XL configured with a LAN address that is open. The routes show connected to the primary LAN gateway, however I cannot connect to anything (LAN or WAN) once connected to the Wireless. Can anyone assist? Thanks in advance!
Normally in such a setup (added AP in existing network), the cAP XL should be set in bridge mode.
Ethernet(s) and WLANs all connected to the bridge.
IP address for convenience in management only. The cAP XL is only a bridge with wired-wireless media conversion.
No WAN here, no DHCP, no NAT, no route, no firewall. Only “bridging” … and whatever connects to the WLAN interfaces is connected to the LAN, and gets it services from there (DHCP, DNS, gateway, …)
So setting SSID and security on the WLANs is almost all that is needed.
If you have VLAN in the LAN network, adjust the WLAN settings accordingly.
