Issue Using RB2011UiAS-2HnD as Access Point for RB3011UiAS

Hi All I have been using router OS for approximatley 18 months using a RB2011UiAS-2HnD really enjoying router OS. I have just upgraded to a RB3011UiAS, I have it set up as a basic router firewall and nat gateway. I am attempting to then use the RB2011UiAS-2HnD as an access point until I have the funds to by a dedicated access point.

I have set the 2011 up with a very basic config of AP bridge, Etherner-1 and the wireless in a bridge and given the bridge an IP.

If I connect this to a unmanaged switch that is connected to my RB3011 it works fine, however when I try and connect it directly to the 3011 in port 10 (to use POE) the link just goes up and down constantly. It makes no difference if the port is in the bridge on 3011 or not.

I assume I am being incredibly stupid and missing something obvious such as spanning tree kicking in or the fact that it is one routerboard device directly connected to another?

Any help appreciated.

Thanks

Any help with this would be appreciated, is there anything I can do to assist with more detail?

Thanks

Will it work with own power supply instead of poe in? I suspect the power adaptor is not giving enough current…

Are you using original power supply to power 3011 ?

Please try to enable forced POE mode on RB3011:
/interface ethernet poe set ether10 poe-out=forced-on

http://wiki.mikrotik.com/wiki/Manual:PoE-Out#forced-on_mode
(Note that the power will stay on until this mode will be changed to auto or off )

Jarda’s right, this is a weak power supply.
The original power supply are not made to feed two Router Boards
I always use power supply meanwell AD55b
Or for heavier work AD155b

Ok thank you I will try with dedicated power and see if makes a difference.

Could anyone confirm or point me in the direction of a good guide, what sort of link should be established between the routerboard acting as a router and one acting as a AP. I have just connected it as a normal layer 2 device and given it a IP address, however is there a better way to do it, what offers the best performance EOIP etc?

Thanks

Is the connection wireless or with network cable?

Connection from the router to the access point is wired.

Why would you use then eoip tunnel?
personally i would not use it in this situation

Just pure cable without any other stuff is the best connection. Everything over it just eats the bandwidth and causes delays.

Ok thanks so just a straight up layer 2 connection it is.

The reason I ask is I come from the cisco world and you wouldnt use an access port for this sort of conenction you would normally establish a trunk between an AP and a controller.

You don’t need that in this case.
Goodluck

Ok thanks
