I started having a weird issue lately with our network I wanted to run it by you guys to see if anyone can provide a solution.
First, I have an x86 based mikrotik router running 5.25 and it has been working fine for years. I runs eBGP with multiple upstream carriers and recently we configured iBGP and OSFP.
Recently we decided to add a second router on the other side of our network to add some redundancy. We used a CCR1036-12G and it is running 6.09. It runs eBGP with multiple carriers and ibgp back to the router mentioned above. It also uses OSPF.
Since we implemented this new configuration we’ve seen an issue with the CCR randomly rebooting. The log always says “router was rebooted without proper shutdown by watchdog timer.” We do have the watchdog timer enabled but do not have a watchdog IP configured.
Now here’s the really strange part. Whenever the CCR crashes and reboots it takes down router1’s ebgp sessions. Why would this be happening? Also, what could be causing the CCR to reboot?
Thanks,
Keefe
