Issues streaming videos to iOS devices

Hi Everyone,

I’m trying to get an advertising video (stored locally on the Mikrotik) to play which then redirects users to our log in page, using a html5 video tag.
This all works fine on Android and desktops, laptops etc. Where I start to run into trouble is with iOS devices.

I know the video is in the correct format as when I store the video on our web server it plays fine, but for some reason when stored locally on a Mikrotik (either on the device itself or on an attached USB) it won’t play. It just displays a black video frame with a crossed out play button.

I’m having exactly the same issue as described in a previous thread from a few years ago: http://forum.mikrotik.com/t/streaming-video-from-hotspot/50104/1

Any ideas?

Regards,
Chris

The ‘mini browser’ in iOS that’s used when connecting to hotspots cannot support certain media as it’s not the full safari browser.

Yeah I found that, but I discovered that by placing apple.com in the walled garden I could bypass the iOS captive portal helper which allowed them to get to the login page in safari or chrome.
Unfortunately the video still doesn’t play when streamed straight from the mikrotik in either of those.
