I have a 5.18 running on a PC. I’m basically using it as UserManager.
I lost the password to winbox and webfig.
I can log in as a basic user via the hotspot but can’t do any config.
would it be easiest to run a new install with a CD or netinstall?
If I use the CD will I be able to use the software ID to get the key without paying for a replacement?
Or any other suggestions to get back the password.
I do have daily backups of the system and usermanager. So, but password was changed and none of the passwords restored for the “onlinne website” where you insert a backup and it brings up passwords, just doesn’t work.

Yea you are going to have to do a netinstall.

Did you not read the part in his original post where he said he has a system backup and already used that website, but the password was changed after the last backup???
If you saved it with password in winbox on an other computer
you can find the password in clear text in the file “winbox.cfg”
It is usally located in C:\Documents and Settings\User\Application Data\Mikrotik\Winbox directory

Got it back.
Waited a couple days and used the website with a most recent backup which had the blotched password I couldn’t get previously.
So the website does work if you wait a day or to for the backup to get the latest password.
