i have an AP with a 2gb flash card..i wanted to set it to sniff all the packets on ch 6 for like an entire day, then when i get up to th site, i will donwload the file from the router.
however i cant no get the:
/int wire sniffer sniff wlan1
command to keep running, unless i leave a winbox or telnet session with the command open, and running. if you close it, the sniffer stops.
running the command via a script or scheduler simple over writes the sniffer target file with a 24Byte blank file.
You could leave vnc server or something like that running on the computer you start the capture from. Then you could vnc into that computer from the site and stop it if you want. I think it works pretty good to a local file. Never got it working in streaming mode though.
serge, thanks, but i replied to your support email and said that tool sniifer is useless for this as it ONLY grabs the traffic between yourself and the AP not other cross traffic which is what i’m looking for.
JP;
thanks, but the AP wont have internet access when im running the sniffer.
tool sniffer is SOO close to doing what i need it to do, why can it not force the card into promiscious mode as the /int wire sniffer sniff tool does?
I mean you could even eliminate the /int wire sniffer sniff if your allowed a promiscious or otherwise option in tool sniffer.
in my first post i state that for some reason this does not work as it only caputres for like one second and leaves a 24B file everytime…
I wondering if that is a bug of some kind…the scheduler that is…
any other ideas? MT please just tell me if this can not be done… its just i cant think of a reason that the normal sniffer runs as long as you would like, but the wireless sniffer behaves differently
