Welcome to MikroTik Router Software remote installation
Press Ctrl-Alt-Delete to abort
I was in the exact same situation just yesterday. You can fix
this by updating the RouterBoard BIOS to version 1.7 and
use its new “Format NAND” BIOS menu option.
On the re-formatted NAND the netinstall will probably work OK.
Frustrated… Just trying to get my RB532 to boot… stuck at the Starting Services…
Figured I’d upgrade the FW… but no relief there either… see below..!!
Looking ALL over RB site and MT site to no avail… WHAT UTILITY SHOULD BE USED TO UPGRADE THE FIRMWARE ON TEH RB500…???
I HAVE ATTEMPTED TO USED THE SERIAL FILE UPLOAD… BAD FILE ID
I HAVE ATTEMPTED TO USE A BOOTP SERVER… BAD FILE ID
I HAVE ATTEMPTED TO USE THE RB200 1.3.6 UPGRADE UTIL… BAD FILE ID
I almost sent the board back for this sale issue (I had an RMA and all)
Here it comes…
Use Dumb / Stupid /Slow NICs when running netinstall to a routerboard 5XX
I had a Compaq laptop connected to my RB500 and used Netinstall to upgrade the OS.. it CRASHED with the same issues…
I tried and tried to correct it… I tried cables, options witih the boot sequence and all..
I finaly tried an old 3Com PCMCIA card to run NEtInstall from and it WORKED !!
There seems to be a point durring the reload wher the routerboard will drop the ethernet conection for a split second. If your card is a fast one it will pick this up and freak, causing Netinstall so sense a network failure and the reload will abort..
Usa a Old / Stupid / Slow NIC and it does not “cacth” the drop… and the reload works..
I now ALLWAYS carry an OLD 3Com or Xircom PCMCIA card in me laptop case just incase my RB500 needs a “Fresh Brain”…
I’ll second what Craig said. I solved it a different way by using a switch between the install pc and the board. The nic on the pc doesn’t see the ‘drop’.
I try netinstall on win xp but everything remain blank and I can’t see MAC of my rb532
In rb532 bios I put boot from eth…protocol bootp
I connect rb532 and my pc to a switch .
On my pc i set ip to 172.16.0.10 (like in doc)
and in netinstall …5
but nothing:
RouterBoard 532A
CPU frequency: 264 MHz
Memory size: 64 MB
Press any key within 5 seconds to enter setup…
kernel not found
trying bootp protocol…
…
… failed
kernel loading failed
I try with a linksys wrt54g as switch and dhco server enable , boot protocol dhcp with the same result.
…
Yes…I use it . Nothing to do!
Somewhere I read to put ms*****.dll in the same directory of netinstall, but I don’t know if it is necessary and where I can find this DLL.
if you use standard built in ethernet card on pc with winxp, try to connect with
pci ethernet card, I had this same problem and i used other pci card and net install worked good
a solution is to first plug in the ethernet cable and then start router, and then start netinstall (in this sequence). this depends on the windows network card, can you tell us which network cards do you use (users who have this problem)?
