Kid Control ROs 6.49.18 vs 7.18.2

Hi, i have two router devices, one is HEX second is RB5009UG+S+.
Hex have older package, RB newer. (ROs 6.49.18 vs 7.18.2)

In both devices i have enabled the kid control totally same way and names and parameters.

On older HEX, i see in Kid Control in column “Activity” real traffic, webpages etc, on RB is Activity column blank.
Other columns are ok, on both devices shows active traffic numbers.

I am using kid control to identify sometime unknown devices, based on traffic what they made, like cameras goes to specific pages, iot to other etc.
Now i am blind

Is that some bug, or “well know improvement”, or i forget something on other parts of RoS configuration? Thank you

You are right, it looks like “activity” no longer works in recent versions.
No idea if this is a bug or if it is an intentional change either to overcome some problem or because of customer or legislator wish…

Best approach: create a ticket and please let us know the response.
I doubt us simple users are going to be able to answer that one

OK, done the SUP-186429  Lets wait few years and will see…

I definitely remember seeing activity in v7. I’m not sure if it was particularly accurate since many devices showed a website for lengthy time, while the device was clearly accessing many sites. To be honest, I don’t know how useful it can be. Probably the best it can do is show a random sampling. I mean, if I have 40 tabs open in a browser, and each site nowadays can get data from dozens URLs (advertisements, tracking and so on), what is Kid Control supposed to show?

I am curious though why and when it stopped working altogether. Please keep us posted.

Don’t know if we will reach that answer, as MikroTik support ticket will reach soon on month anniversary, without single reaction from support.
Is that common and really that bad support level? I never met that kinda poor support nowhere in my life.

The response time from support varies widely.
Sometimes you get a reply within a day, even when there is a real problem to be solved.
Sometimes there is no reply for a very long time.
My oldest ticket without any reply was submitted 06/Mar/25 5:21 PM (SUP-181093).
Oldest ticket for which there was some reply but no further progress towards a solution after all requested information was provided: 19/Aug/24 2:18 PM (SUP-159987)

Normis recently posted that they get many tickets that are merely requests to help with (invalid) configuration etc.
So it may easily happen that some real tickets get snowed under.

Also remember that this is all “free” support as included in the (often already low) sales price of the product, it is not like e.g. Cisco support where you pay an additional subscription fee for the support.

“Hello, Thank you for the report!
We apologize for the late reply. We have managed to reproduce the issue locally in our labs and look forward to fixing it on upcoming RouterOS versions, unfortunately, I cannot provide a release date now. Best regards,”

So at least we know, that they know about challenge exist, and we should wait. Will write after i will see the case is fixed also on device

I also got a couple of replies to old tickets recently, with about the same text, so apparently they are going through the pile of unanswered tickets…
Now at least you know the issue is somewhere on a list!

Thanks…I have the same issue soo hopefully they fix it soon

It should be fixed in Test channel, in 7.20beta8 <"(*system - fixed certain notifications (e.g. kid-control activity, connection tracking table) (introduced in v7.17)">. There is 7.20beta9 available, but dont have chance to test it, as in prod i cannot use Test channel, only Stable one, same as all older devices working well, and that RB with issue i have only one, no spare for test  So who can, test it pleae, instead i am awaiting every changelog, to se it in proper production release, where no change was happen still.

I do not use actually v7 as CPE, but on one test i do now, kid control activity do not work also on 7.16.2

It does show in the latest beta:

However, IPv6 traffics are still not correctly accounted (the Rate and Bytes counter only use IPv4 data).

So basicaly confirming that in 7.20 i found it fixed. Talking only about the activity part, what was my main issue. I can now operate in common way.
