Knot modbus com port redirector

Hi everybody. I need to redirect a virtual COM port from a win11 PC to the Knot RS485.

Can anybody suggest me a free working com port redirector?

Regards

I am not sure to understand what you are asking for.

Usually you need a USB to RS485 converter to connect a RS485 to a modern PC.

And these usually have their own drivers for windows.

On the other hand there are Com port redirectors that allow COM port access over TCP/IP, there is Hercules, but it has to be seen if it works on 11 (it does on 10, so probably on 11 too):

https://www.hw-group.com/software/hercules-setup-utility

The Knot has a RS485 inside and it can be used with modbus protocol with commands from the Mikrotik terminal or with scripts.

This interface can be connected remotely by port 502.

There are some softwares that can create on the PC a virtual COM port and redirect it to a remote device like the Hercules. But this can be done with the Knot too.

My problem is that the softwares like the hercules or the moxa works only with their devices, not with mikrotik

So you want something like Hercules ?

I thought that Hercules is “manufacturer specific” only for some features, the main ones being “universal”.

Still I do not understand what you actually want to do/need, try further describing what you want to obtain as a final goal.

The final goal is to control a remote modbus device connected to the knot, from a win11 pc.

There are softwares to be paied like

But I was looking for a free software with the same functions

So, VSP3?
https://www.hw-group.com/software/hw-vsp3-virtual-serial-port

I just tried with vsp3 and a Schneider ATV320, but it does not work…

The KNOT is sending ModbusTCP protocol over the network. I have not tested it, but does something like https://apps.microsoft.com/detail/9nztln2m1rl8?hl=en-US&gl=US work?

If you want it acting like pure serial, then you may want to try using /port/remote-access instead of the modbus port to enable RFC-style serial which virtual com port likely expecting.

Can you explai me how to use the remote access. I never used it

See Ports - RouterOS - MikroTik Documentation

Basically you need to set the port to use, and pick the serial port. Do not use same port as ModBus TCP (and may have to disable modbus, but IDK since only used the remote-access on a KNOT).

In simple words can you write me the terminal commands?

From what I understand, the VSP3
https://www.hw-group.com/software/hw-vsp3-virtual-serial-port
should be an (entirely free) equivalent to the (actually freemium) Free Com Port Redirector:
https://freecomportredirector.com/

SInce you can anyway try this latter (possibly with some limited features), if it doesn't work it should mean that you need some other kind of tool.
