I have two L009 routers in my network. Till some time back they was working very well with software 7.16.2
Recently i upgraded them to 7.17.2 and then start problems. Routers rebooting in random moments. In logs i can see such information: “Router was rebooted without proper shutdown, probably kernel failure” and in next line “kernel failure in previous boot”.
I didn’t change anything in configuration (i have 2 IPSec tunnels and in OVPN). I was thinking that maybe ROS 7.17 is crappy so i upgraded to 7.18.2. Same story.
Same problem happen on both L009. Other routers (RB4011, RB5009, RB760, RB3011) don’t have any problems with software (ok maybe beside HexS and not so lucky 7.18.1) only L009. I could say that one router is broken but both of them? I also noticed that after changing from 7.16.2 to higher version CPU utilization rised about 10%.
What should i do? For me something was introudeced in ROS7.17 and it’causing problems.
As a first step, could you try downgrading one of your crashing L009s back to 7.16, and see if the crashes stop? That would at least lend more evidence to the theory of a grievous regression in 7.17+ that affects at least this product…
I did it. Currently both of L009 are working on 7.16.2. I downgraded directly from 7.18.2. With 7.18.2 routers rebooted after 15-20 minutes. With 7.16.2 they are working already 3 hours 12 minutes and no error and crash.
One of routers has constant stream of data over IPSec (around 50Mbit). I noticed that during working 7.16.2 load is spread very nice between both cores (56% on cpu0 and 50% on cpu1). However when i upgraded to 7.17 and next to 7.18.2 one core is heavily loaded (almost 95%) and second around 20%.
Second L009 with very light load also rebooting so uneven load on cores is not an issue. Additionally both of L009 was purchased in different shops, different time.
Something is very wrong with ROS 7.17 and higher. First problem with HexS in 7.18 now this. I check changelog and 7.17 from which all problems started (checked this version too) and i didn’t find any clue what could cause that. L009 was installed in my network and since 7.14.3 till yesterday 7.17 upgrade it was working like charm, config is the same since beginning (10th May 2024) so if config is ok and HW is same problem must be with SW.
Thank you very much. I hate to using beta versions due to my past experience. Currently its beta8 so I believe soon it will be soon in stable channel. Thanks god 7.16.2 is not too far from current release from security reasons.
