L009UiGS-RM SFP Connection with Others Brand Switch

Hello everyone, I am waiting for my first Mikrotik hardware, I purchased an L009UiGS-RM.

I need to connect this router to my existing Netgear GS716T switch equipped with SFP interface.

  1. Currently the AGM731F Transceiver (1.25Gbps, MMF, 850nm, 550m) is installed in the switch, to better understand, since I would like to move slowly towards the Mikrotik brand, to connect the two devices, on the L009UiGS-RM, which compatible Transceiver should I install?

  2. Looking at the compatibility tables, I should mount the S-85DLC05D, right?

  3. If I also mounted the AGM731F Transceiver on the L009UiGS-RM, it would not work, is that correct?

  4. Even though they are different models, the AGM731F and S-85DLC05D, technically they should communicate?

Sorry for my english (I’m Italian) and if some questions are basic, but it’s the first time I connect devices of different brands and different transceivers.

Thanks in advance for the answers, Bye!!

  1. you answered it in 2)

  2. yes

  3. it might work … MT doesn’t fo vendor locks, but it doesn’t do many interoperability tests, henceblack of information about compatibility

  4. it’s important that they are compatible on optical side: they are both multimode, they both work with 850nm light, they are both 1Gbps (actually 1.25Gbps) ethernet modules.
