Hi guys, I need little help / advice configuring one of the ports on my mikrotik.
I want the local lan port to have the highest priority and a reserved bandwidth, for example for voip to put it in priority 1 the most important ?
and give a reserved bandwidth of 1mb ?
any advice / help
Funny thing is, somehow it shows me only 2 active interfaces with data flow(except wlan), while I have all 5 of them connected, 1st is ISP (goes to bridged modem) other 4 are local, 2 is voip phone, 3 is ip tv, 4 is another wifi router (because somehow my sony vaio leptop is unable to connect to mikrotik wifi ) and 5 is connected to my pc. So I dont see the logic, in the winbox on interfaces it shows me 3 active interfaces, one is bride, other two are gateway and master local, is this normal ? why other interfaces are showing 0 ?
enslaved ports only show up under the master. Since you are setup that way you can’t do it by port since you have them all on the same L2 switch. You will need to specify the devices by IP address.
Change master port of VOIP device port to none (Unless it is the mater port if this is the case use a different port for it)
Address - Assign a different IP address to the port VOIP is plugged into.
Assign your dhcp server to that port
Setup a simple queue referencing the interface. You will need to do this for VOIP and non voip traffic, giving voip highest priority. http://wiki.mikrotik.com/wiki/Manual:Queue
Soo, this one works you helped me with your step by step advise, thanks I have separated the interface, then I created IP adressing and a DHCP ser for that interface, and now I can make a simple queue and it works, now I have one more questions about the queue priority, by default it’s set to 8, what is the highest priority ? the most highest ? or the most lowest number ?
so would 10 be highest ? or 1 highest ?
I did, but somehow I dont see any activity on the statistics and also I dont see any change on my wifi device, so from the start I could get 8.42mbps, and after adding this que and even putting limit of 2mb or 1mb it’s not limiting it. so it’s like it does not see the wifi interface, while it’s properly selected.
Now last time when you told me how to change the port from slave to normal I did it at home, at home it was ok, at home I’m using DCHP enabled config for both IPS and local Net.
now I have installed same router in our office, now the problem is I cannot change the port from slave to normal, as soon I do that the port becames unusable, I’m unable to do anything with it, even setting a separate dhcp on that port does not help.
In office I have a diferent setup, my ISP is set by static IP, and Local net is without DHCP on the router, DHCP is installed on win server DC exchnage. So by default DHCP of the router id disabled.
Now after basic setup I get the router to work, but then all on same network, so I’m unable to separate the ports. I will add a full diagram of my network in office sothat it’s easy to see what I mean.
I need to separate all ports, and make sure that they get connected, some ports without DHCP, other with dhcp from router. and at home it does work, but not in office. please advice if possible.
I need to do this to completely and easyly preserve bandwidth for important pc’s and voip phones, and all others general data is not important so they will have not reserved connections.
The first solution stopped working after a week, somehow it stopped givin IP adresses, and even on static I was not able to connect on that port anymore, untill I restarted, and then it went to slave again, all by it self, I did not change anything.
today wholoe day I was trying to make the same config, and untill now, no luck
and even the other type of mangle, does not work, I gues I’m doing something wrong, I hoped to be able to do it by port, but now because it does not work, Im trying to mark trafic by source IP, and in the marking I see traffic but to small, the IPTV is ising a constant of at least 3-4mb and I see less than 1 mb…
Yes, first time when I did that there were some errors, I guess I did something wrong, now I’m trying same config, this time I indeed assigned IP adresses to each port, its little confusing for me as I’m a starter in the Mikrotik logics but for now I set for each port a different network, like 192.168.2.1 second port 192.168.3.1 etc… and also made DHCP servers for each port I dont know if that is the right way to give each port a separate DHCP. but It works now, all ports have Internet, and the right IP addresses are released by dhcp, now everything works again. I will try to use this for few days, and also will try to make some priorities based on ports, untill now I’m not really able to prioritize, I have tried limiting, that works perfect, but limit is not the only thing I want to be able to give priorities and the priorities must work only when the bandwidth usage by others reach certain volume, utnill now I was not able to succes, somehow if torrent is downloading unlimited then my IPTV freezes…
