we have large bridged network consisting of 125 bridge nodes. Every base station and satellite has configuration : WDS +WPA2 + bridge , that’s all no osfp or stp .
We changed our pppoe server from linux (serving about 200-300 clients at a time) to mikrotik. We configured it very basically during migration to avoid any problems. Configuration of pppoe server is attached . We had no problems before migration.
Authentication is based on linux freeradius that is responding with proper “Mikrotik-Rate-Limit” attribute so we can use simple-queues that are created properly and clients have their interfaces shaped correctly. Whole network is based on mikrotik , no other hardware is used. Clients are getting random dhcp server IP before pppoe connection just to disable the exclamation mark in windows internet icon what is annoying for them.
What we are dealing with is such a problem :
- RANDOM clients (with or without public IP ) cannot connect or hardly connect with 0.001% of their queue rate ,to any site after successful authentication. Their queue is ok, their adres and gateway is also OK . It only affects clients with routers (dlink, linksys, tplink, whatever).This occurs when other clients connected to the same point in the network can succesfully surf the internet.
- After taking client’s router to another location in our network consisting of 125 bridge nodes and authenticating it against pppoe server in exactly the same manner as in clients localtion , we observer totally no problems .
- Clients are having problems in random locations , but just connecting with their routers at another point in the network, everything happens to work again.
