layer 2 traceroute

hi all,

does anyone know any layer 2 traceroute utility for linux/windows? i am running cable net using layer 2 switches and want to findout the mac addresses of each switch(unmanageable). so that if any line has problem i can identify the problematic switch by using MAC ping.

consult the manufacturer of those switches. something like that would have to be proprietary.

Something like that, I beleive would have to be managed, or at least have snmp query capabilities.
