Layer 7 and Qos, server HW requirements

Hi all,

I’m planing to buy or build a server for Layer 7 and Qos.

Do you have any recommendation for HW for this kind of server?

What are the pro and contras for RouterOS and for Linux (RetHat, Debian based distributions)?

Bandwidth will be up to 100Mbps (actual 50mbps) for 300 - 400 clients

L7/Qos we will use for prioritizing the p2p, http download, online games etc.

im running a standard dual core p4 E5200 cpu, 2gb ram ddr2 800, 250gb sata with two gb-lan cards ( input/output)

running pppoe server , firewall, queue, L7

runs smooth, got +/- 250 clients
