LDF LTE 6 worse or no signal when used with a dish

Hi There,

Wondering if anyone can help? We’ve got our hands on one of the new LDF LTE 6 a couple of days ago however we are struggling to get a signal when used in conjunction with a Satelite dish i.e. it seems to get a better signal when it is pointed in the direction of the nearest cell tower without the dish as opposed to facing the dish. Anyone got any ideas?

We are using a 1m fibre glass satelite dish https://www.triax.uk/products/satellite/satellite-dishes/fibre-dishes/dap-711-70cm-ral-7016

Thanks in advance

Oli

When using large dish like this it’s important to point it EXACTLY at the base station antenna. The beamwidth will be just a degree or two, so being off just a little bit will result in poor signal.
Also the dish is a offset dish, so you have to account for that angle offset (for ground links you have to mount it almost looking to the ground or upside down).

Hi,

Thanks for your reply.

Just for clarification this is LTE version of the LDF. When you say basestation antenna do you mean the cell tower?

Any advice for accounting for the offset?

Yes, I mean BTS or cell tower antennas for LTE. It would be the same for WIFI, the pointing is the same for any signals, be it wifi/LTE/satellite.

Azimuth is easy. For elevation, you either mount the dish normal way and point it “looking” to the ground or mount it upside down.
Search “offset dish wifi” in google images for some ideas.
