Recently I bought a pair of LHG ax devices. They are installed at a distance of 1.8 km with clear line of sight. The signal strength when the link is first established is around -42 dBm, but shortly after it increases to about -70 dBm. Has anyone had a similar experience and how can this be resolved?

Check the data rates.
Obviously signal strength will drop with higher data rates (higher modulation)
That’s not so obvious. Normally the driver shows the signal strength of the beacons (which are always sent at the lowest datarate, hence at the highest possible TX power). It’s possible this is one of many quirks of the wifi-qcom driver though.
