LHGG-LTE6 - Modem not working, no internet connectivity

Hi folks, apologies in advance if this isn’t the right forum to post in.

I bought a LHGG-LTE6 kit, along with a ScanCom multi-network data SIM.

Intermittently (about half of the time) I keep getting recurring error message “Ite1: no response for: ATEO”:

Some earlier web searches suggested that I should upgrade to the latest RouterOS (it was originally on 6.something), and so I upgraded to 7.11.2. The official link prompted me to download the ARM64 version, but when I tried this I got an error log message saying that the device is MIPS, not ARM64. So I installed the MIPSBE version, and that installed successfully.

I still get the error message intermittently. I also get message “Ite1: no response for: AT+EEMGINFO?” in the logs:

On one occasion, for a few brief seconds, I saw data going to and from the mobile network. I clicked through to the LTE interfaces section of the web UI, and tried to download the latest LTE modem firmware. I got a popup saying that the firmware URL is unreachable. I went back to the cellular stats, it had disconnected, and then checked the logs to find the “Ite1: no response for: ATEO” message repeating.

Can anyone help me diagnose what is wrong, please? I’ve done a bit of configuring VPCs in the enterprise and a lot of software engineering, and I was expecting the configuration to be a bit hardcore, but this unit just seems defective?

I intended to use this along with an access point to provide internet connectivity at a rural barn that I own, where phone signal is weak.

Any help y’all can provide would be really appreciated

Ugh, and now the SIM card got stuck in the slot. I managed to get it out, but it’s no longer recognising any SIM I put in there.

Looks like I’d best return it

Do you have an APN set for your carrier and is “use network APN” unchecked in the “LTE APNs” under Interface>LTE?

Thanks for the reply! Yes, the APN is set correctly and “use network APN” is unchecked. The SIM works fine in an iPhone 12 Mini.

You could also try just setting LTE (e.g. uncheck GSM & 3G) as the network types. It’s curious the logs show “roaming”, so if your not roaming, might uncheck that box.

The other thing here is it’s an LHGG, so you do want to make sure you’re same side of the barn as cell tower. If this barn is metal, the wrong side also explain no signal in a rural area..

It magically started working last night. I’m really confused!

I tried putting the SIM back in, and it wasn’t recognised. Tried one last time, and it worked (there’s never a satisfying ‘click’, so I think the physical latch is broken). Still no internet connectivity though. I reset the settings again (I’ve done this about six times so far), rebooted it, still no internet connectivity even though the LTE modem had established a connection to a local provider (EE). I clicked the “allow roaming” checkbox when configuring the APN, and it started working. What’s utterly maddening is that I’d enabled that on previous attempts, and it hadn’t worked. The SIM is a multi-network one so I think it always counts as roaming so it can switch between whichever network is most available.

I’m now left wondering one or more of the following are true:

  • I’m a klutz and configured something differently this time

  • The SIM socket is sketchy and my prior problems were caused by a poor/intermittent contact with it

  • The product has bugs that cause behavious to appear non-deterministic

Thanks for taking the time to help, @Amm0.
