Licence and Upgrade Question

Hello,

Maybe i do this wrong or maybe this question was answered a thousand times but…

It looks like my customer has a licence that can go up to RouterOs 7.X

http://forum.mikrotik.com/download/file.php?mode=view&id=17206

but i can’t get to upgrade the router to version 6.13 and i am stuck to version 5.2. It doesn’t find any packages.

Also the mirror list is empty, that is maybe why…

Here is the firmware version also…

Hello phuketmymac,

in normal you buy a RouterBoard and it comes with
an activated (licensed) RouterOS version on it as I see it right.

And in normal, you will be only able to upgrade the RouterOS version
to the next one likes from 5 to 6 or from 6 to 7, but often enough I have
seen RouterBoards often can do two steps so that means from 4 - 6 and 5 - 7
and this is nothing you can count on or it is a must be as I see it right now.

And so the question must be redirected to you and you should answer us more
the question from what you are trying to upgrade RouterOS and to witch version
you want to upgrade? So if your customer is able to get the vers. 7.x and he starts
with vers. 5.x all is normal looking for me.

Jump from one major version to another has to be done manually by uploading correct package files. Always. Upgrade is not update.

I think than both of us have not understand what the phuketmymac write.

He think than RouterOS 5.2 can be simple upgradable/updatable (do not matter the version) simply using the Auto Upgrade feature.

phuketmymac

simply downlaod this file:
http://download2.mikrotik.com/routeros/5.26/routeros-mipsbe-5.26.npk

upload inside the “file” menu,

reboot the machine

go to system / routerboard and choose to upgrade firmware,

download this other file (DO NOT SKIP THE PREVIOUS PASSAGES!!!):
http://download2.mikrotik.com/routeros/6.13/routeros-mipsbe-6.13.npk

upload inside the “file” menu,

reboot the machine

go to system / routerboard and choose to upgrade firmware,

reboot the machine

and you have done.

In the future, simply go to system / packages / check for update (actually you have not this menu)

For the auto update feature to work a repository is needed which contains installable packages.
If you want to update your current installed version go to system → packages and click check update.

And my answer? Is not good?

THIS NOT WORK IN HIS CASE. BEFORE REPLY, CHECK WHAT THE USER WRITE.
THE USER HAVE ROUTEROS 5.2 AND THE CHECK UPDATE NOT EXIST ON THIS VERSION,
AND ALSO, IF THE USER HAVE 5.26, HE CAN NOT UPGRADE TO 6.13 WITHOUT DOWNLOAD THE FILE,
BECAUSE CHECK FOR UPDATE DO NOT UPGRADE

Rextended, I didn’t want to offend you in any way.
I did read the previous posts and have yo admit I am unaware of the absence of the update button on version 5.2.
I however do know that you have to manually update if you want to go from 5 to 6.
The point nobody talked about was the auto-update feature shown on the graphics of the first post. I wanted to explain that specifically.
Again, sorry if my way of writing was to blunt.

I’m not offended :unamused:

Auto upgrade can be used if one of your RouterOS machines will host the new package files, and other device can get them from there.
