Lightning strike - how much can we reuse?

Our tower recently or something nearby got hit by lightning and the surge came in through our cheap PoE injectors and killed a fair bit of equipment. The PoE injectors have obvious scorch and burn marks inside, but the ethernet cable at the ground at least looks fine - since we have a lot of outdoor Cat5 in use, is it possible that this could be re-used even after it carried a surge current? It would really be a pain to have to redo all our cabling, especially since a lot of other installations on the tower are blocking the cables in places.

Lesson learned… don’t think lightning won’t hit you just because you rarely get ground strikes!

Sorry to hear that; had my share in Florida. Cable I’ve never had to replace - just crimps and a new supply of electrons.

As long as the current wasn’t enough to melt insulation and cause a short the cable should be just fine. A simple test with a cable tester can detect any shorts.
