What are the likely causes of winbox aborting with say 5 seconds of loading (just after painting a null screen with the menu on the left)?
The device is at the far end of a point-to-multipoint link in staging and we can transfer files to and from its client (a lab laptop) via wget.
We believe the hardware is OK and that we somehow just got a configuration setting that is causing the abort.

I’ve had that happen on multi-homed Windoze boxes when accessing MT gear via a MAC address. Using the IP address instead fixes it.
try to use the latest Winbox (from http://demo2.mt.lv ), and untip ‘load previous session’ in Winbox loader window.

Is that the same one that is included with RouterOS 2.9.26?
NZLamb , yes the latest Winbox is available to download from any router with the latest MikroTik RouterOS version. (however, this feature ‘load previous session’ was implemented in earlier versions)

Since WinBox has no apparent version tracking, how about a prompt if opened with an out of date package?
