Well, after reading the issues with beta6 and beta7 I decided to stay with beta5. As previously posted I have had issues running Dude in FC5 under the latest in wine. All updates are current. To recap, running Dude server in FC5 and using the client there, it runs ok. Connecting to that server from a windows xp laptop, it is ok. Connecting to that server from another FC5 box, dude client running under the latest wine, no local server, it is like running vnc over a slow connection. Sometimes it will hang. I run dual screens on my desktop (FC5) and it even effects the performance of other windows I have open. But this is even the case when trying with a single screen FC5 box.
So, I borrowed a win xp box and set up the dude on it. I get the same issues when connecting to that server on win xp from a FC5 box.
Guys, we are predominately a Linux shop with only a few employees running xp. Therefore the performance issues are very critical to us. I really like this program. It has a lot of functionality I could use. But given the performance I am receiving it is all but unusable to me. It would be great to either fix these if we must run under wine or build a linux version of The Dude. Otherwise I will be forced to find another network monitoring solution like zabbix or return to using Nagios.
So I understand that you have no problems running dude server under linux just the client under wine is too slow?
Is this problem related to your specific configuration or you experience this problem straight after install or configuration reset? If its due to configuration please send us your export file to help resolve the problem

Uldis,
I will send the export file. Also, server runs ok. The client on the server runs ok, if a bit slow compared to on a windows box. Client on at different FC5 box connecting to the server (FC5) runs very very slow and sometimes hangs. It mainly appears to relate to the map. This is with a fresh install or just upgrade and an import of the export file. Export file was originally made on a windows laptop.
edit:
I just noticed that if I have the window maximized and open a browser ontop of The Dude then pull that browser over to the other monitor, I have pieces of the browser left on the Dude screen. It takes it about 30 seconds to get rid of the “pieces”. I also noticed that if the dude is showing in the second screen and while I type here, the typing will lag when the dude updates its screen. If I minimize The Dude the periodiic lagging in my typing goes away. So perhaps it is the way the Dude is building or refreshing the screen. I am using an ATI Radeon 9800 pro with the latest drivers in FC5. Also if I double click something like events to show that panel. The events panel appears instantly but the map screen and the small overall map in the lower left take some time to show again.
Just as a note, I did a default install of the last couple of versions. To start the dude client I use the file browser and go the the Dude directory under the default install location in .wine. Then double click dude.exe. So nothing special in how I start the program.
