Reason is, unstable wine software, slow response.
Yes it depends of distribution, but newest version of wine installed and still having trouble.
ROS 3.0 works faster than 2.9 on linux ( UBUNTU ). But now API is available, so you can write your own winbox on linux.
on ubuntu i have not experienced any problems with winbox. please check your configuration software and hardware if it really runs slowly.
and yes using new API feature you can build your very own.
