I’ve made a big mistake and am unsure of how to fix the issue.
Background: The Dude server was not connecting like it usually does, so I logged into WinBox attempting to investigate the issue.
Being the Bad IT Guy that I am, I figured resetting the MikroTik ethernet where it was connected would resolve the issue. WRONG. I disabled the ethernet port 2, and am unable to log in.
How do I fix this?? I’ve tried logging in through the other ports, but I guess they are not configured? I’ve power cycled but that doesn’t help. Unable to telnet since I cannot ping the device anymore since the interface is disabled.
Sorry for the panic, but this our main network monitor and I’m in deep crap right now.
Please let me know if further information is needed.
Lesson: never take actions that could lock you out without first activating Safe Mode. If you get locked out, RouterOS will revert the last command you made after about 20 seconds or so.
Hopefully you got a backup config file, then you can just reset it and upload the config. And if it’s your “main router” you gotta have a backup for it!
What device is DUDE running on? Port2 is disabled, your opportunities are with the other ports.. Try at least “WinBOX MAC” not IP, as IP might not be configured. There is even Telnet MAC from another Mikrotik router. .
Apologies to everyone for this atrociously latent reply. I had to reset and painfully rebuild the entire network map! Being new to this position, no documentation from the previous system manager, and a slew of other issues the issue is resolved.
Lessons Learned:
Backups have been made AND tested! Cannot stress that enough, previous admin made backups but none of them worked.
Have another method of getting into the router. Something I wish I would have known about before attempting anything on the new system.
SAFE MODE!
Thank you to everyone who had suggestions, and hopefully this thread helps anyone who manages to get themselves in the same predicament.
