I run a central hotspot server. I have a network with several ap’s, and many of the client radios connected to these ap’s cannot create a transparent bridge between the AP and the CPE. This means all the clients behind these client radios appear to be loggin in from the same MAC address when looking at the hotspot server. What I have noticed is that if one client has a static ip, and one is running DHCP client, none of the clients behind this client radio can login to the hotspot…
What is causing this, and what can I do to fix the problem. I really want to avoid having to change all the CPE’s if possible…
Thank you for the tip! I set it to 256, but unfortunately that did not do the trick. I see the behavior also with only two clients behind the radio. As long as one as DHCP and one static ip.
Ip’s are issued by the DHCP server on the mikrotik running the hotspot server.
I do not have a address pool assigned to the hotspot server, in order to avoid the hotspot doing translation of the ip addresses. Only way I could get upnp working.
Excuse my ignorance, but what would the one-to-one nat have to do with upnp? My “one-to-one nat” does no “real” translation if all is well. When I look in “/ip hotspot host”, I see:
192.168.0.250 translated to 192.168.0.250
192.168.0.249 translated to 192.168.0.249
etc.
Yes, I can understand your question, and ask you to excuse my ignorance…
The thing is, if I switch on the address pool for the hotspot, upnp stops working. I’ve tested several times now, and the behaviour is the same. I really don’t understand what I’m doing wrong here, but I’m sure it something…
I am not certain how you are set up, so excuse me once again if I start simple. If you are not logged in through the hotspot, nothing goes through it. A few of my customers call to complain about email not working. I must remind them to login with their web browser before Outlook or Thunderbird will work. Same with all else. If you can be a little more specific about the conditions that things work, and not just upnp, but all services such as web browsing. Are you logged in when upnp is not working?
