logging out dead ssh sessions

I can no longer login to my mt server via ssh, it loads halfway, but then it never shows a command line for me to type anything. Under active users it shows a about 15 sessions, all real and from me, but i closed them a long time ago, some are from over 6 days ago. Is there any way to log out these sessions?(i can still get winbox) i need to be able to ssh and rebooting isnt really an option.

Thanks for any help.

Seems like there should be a way to remove active users, but there is no command from the term and no “-” in winbox

You might get lucky if the sessions are listed in the firewall connections, as you can delete these connections, perhaps that will cause them to log out…perhaps after some time. Worth a shot?

much much worse problem now. i lost all power, my battery backup DID NOT kick in, shut down the whole system. I booted the router back up and now for any username/password i try it says incorrect username/password from both ssh and winbox (the only login methods i have enabled) is there some way to “reset” the username password from the physical machine via keyboard/monitor connection?

arrgggg i this is my MAIN server and i cant have it all messed up. any help would most definatly be appreciated.

Man, that sucks. Out of curiousity, what OS version, hardware, compact flash (if used) was this on?

There’s no way to recover a password. Have you tried the default user admin with no password? You might also want to try truncated versions of your password. Someone should confirm this, but you might be able to do a netinstall and select keep current config, but I’ve never tried it and am not sure if this will work properly. Can anyone verify?

If not and you need to recover the config, about the only other way to do this is to mount the hard drive or CF card on a linux box and dig around for the important stuff. I was able to recover a hotspot box this way that would no longer boot up.

If you don’t need the config, just run netinstall on it…your license will still be there.

its on an x86 server. admin no pass doesnt work. i will try to mount it on my linux box and see what i can do. ill just have to do it late tonight.

can i overright the install with a cd and save the key?

i ended up getting it working. i dont know if it was a bug, or if i opened a winbox window and clicked the wrong thing but my user had been set to 0.0.0.0/32 which wouldnt let me login. once i was plugged in with a physical keyboard i found it after looking around for a bit. thanks for the help, and i am very glad it was something simple. also, i immediatly upgraded to 2.9.24
