I have a question about the rb532 and the sr5 400mw wireless card. Anyone using it?
Here is the scenario. I have a project to do a highbandwidth link. Actually 3 links. 2 are 11 miles long and one is 23 miles long. I know I can do the 23 mile with no problem as I am currently doing one with 16mb thruput non nstream. I would like to make this new one nstream and try and get 20-40mb. These are 5.8mb radios currently. So my questions are has anyone used the new 532 boards and the sr5 to get the boosted speed? And does anyone have any experience with true nstream with 2 antennas (one rec, one xmit) in real world that can say that it actually does increase bandwidth?
I know the 523 is new, but does anyone have any feedback on their reliability?

Hi Kenny,
For that sort of distance you need Nstreme or Nstreme2.
Nstreme is CPU-intensive (though MT say they have a new version in the works) so don’t try this on a slow CPU platform.
I haven’t tried the new RB500 series, which is supposed to be faster than the older low-power platforms but even so, I think that might be pushing things.
Personally, I’d go for a 600MHz to 1GHz CPU platform, 5Ghz band with Turbo channel bonding (if you need the throughput, as you say you do), Nstreme for starters.
I’d suggest get it all working with Nstreme before trying Nstreme2 unless you are supremely confident … at least that proves the single RF path, antennas, LOS, RF environment etc.

i am using the rb532 and wds briding with the sr5 on ros2.9rc5. been running at 23mb UDP HDX for 2 weeks stably

we have reached up to 60Mbps on overclocked 333MHz RB532, 42Mbps on normal 266MHz, so this is NOT ENOUGH for nstreme dual, I’m waiting for new RouterBoard 3xx series with ~1GHz CPU, that would be enough ![]()
As I have written before, we are working on a new wireless package that will enable Nstreme to go faster on low power platforms. Should be ready for you to test in a week or so. Possibly 20-40% faster.

On one side 1.7Ghz Celeron, on the other side RB500 running at 333Mhz.
Is this the wireless package that is included in the routeros-2.9rc7 download, or is it different and must be installed separately even if the router is already running routeros-2.9rc7 ?

This package isn’t included in the regular RouterOS v2.9rc7. If you have installed the v2.9rc7 with regular wireless package then you should upload this test package to the routers FTP and reboot it - do ‘system reboot’
