long range mobile link

Hi guys, i hope this is the proper place to post…

I have a small project to a mobile wifi station on one side and non-mobile on the other side.
This means some kind of whip antenna on the mobile side and a yagi on the non mobile side
the non mobile side points the yagi in the perfect direction of the mobile side

the reason the mobile side is using a whip antenna is practical, as it cannot move around like the yagi will.

It seems that the mikrotik routers would be a good solution for this, as my link would be between 10 and 20km range (line of sight unencumbered!). i also need to sustain a minimum of (reliable) 4Mbit and lowest possible pings (under 20 ms its very ok)

the mobile side also needs to be power efficient and light as possible, finally it must have a common interface, usb, ethernet, what not

thanks

sounds like you’re trying to connect something like a ferry boat going back and forth across a harbor… I know a guy who built a mikrotik based system for just that, but it ended up being a little more complicated than just 2 radios. it ended up requireing an array of 7 CPEs with directional antennas on top of the boat in order to work reliably enough for the customers needs (it was a homeland security project, therefore they tested the crap out of it and made sure it was very very stable)
