Looking for a network sniffer - please advise

Hello,

for my home lab I am looking for a network sniffer.
Ideally something that has 4 or more ethernet ports that could be bridged into two groups so all network traffic can go freely between ports while being captured at the same time.

One option is to purchase small PC, put enough network cards, install Linux and here it is.
I actually found small ITX PCs with Atom CPU with four ethernet ports but wondering - may be MikroTik has something with more ports that cold do the same?

Is there any device that could be used as a network sniffer that has at least four ethernet ports?
Speeds up to 100Mbit would be enough.

Thank you in advance,

Alex

Would the two switch chips in 2011 or 493G work? I don’t think I’ve tried running two mirrors.

Hi,

although I’m a MikroTik fan, I would go with the “PC running Linux” solution.
It will be better suited to your needs and more flexible.

Why dont you just run an rb2011 and switch 5 of those ports and then endable packet sniffer to stream to your pc?
