Hope you are all well and enjoying the end of the weekend. I’m a long time lurker here (well, since Feb-2022 when I joined the Mikrotik family, although I didn’t create a forum account until Feb-2024, which I did so that I could investigate some excellent configuration posts), but this is my first actual post.
I wanted to start by saying thanks to everyone that has helped me on the journey so far. There are simply too many to mention, but the people responsible for some of the legendary basic config, VLAN and off bridge management port posts here have been amazing. I bought an RB450Gx4 in Feb-2022 after getting tired of ISP provided routers failing on me during Covid and hindering me from doing some of the more funky stuff I wanted to do. By way of background, I’m a total networking novice, and only do it for fun and desired security at home. I was a little hesitant to jump in when reading about the learning curve associated with RouterOS, but if I’m honest it was also an exciting challenge to take on, and one that I’m glad that I did.
In Feb-2024 (around the same time I joined the forum to view post attachments), I upgraded to the L009UiGS-RM, and moth-balled the RB450Gx4. This was mainly because I wanted a new toy to play with, but I was really keen to experiment with containers (AdGuard only so far, which I love and extend to mobile devices via Wireguard), and I wanted more ports (although that may have been easier to solve other ways). I have since integrated it into a nice 10 inch rack with a few other bits, and I love it.
However, in 7 days I am leaving the family home and moving into a rental. That’s a whole other story which I’m happy to share with anyone that wants the details, but suffice to say it’s very sad but very amicable. My wife is not particularly tech savvy, so I’m going to try to dumb things down a bit now, but I will still be on hand to help her with any issues that come up (my new place is only 850m away from the current home).
I’m reading the above, and realising that this is already a stupidly long post for what is ultimately a very simple question, but I think I owed a bit of context to help clarify. My question is: is there a simple way to migrate the current config in the L009UiGS-RM back over to the RB450Gx4 with more or less the same setup (with the exception of the AdGuard container, for example, which would in turn necessitate a minor change to the DNS setting)?
I’m happy to share the current config if it helps, and a network diagram to make sense of it too (although I haven’t updated the diagram in a while, so it might be a bit stale and require an update before sharing).
