We recently ran into some issue with one of our customers looping a cable and bringing the entire network down. This was a remote site that we manage and it takes hours to drive to the location. I have been looking into ‘Loop Protect’ in current builds of RouterOS but can’t seem to find a ton of information on it.
Is there a way to enable this across the board for every interface rather than enabling one at a time through the RouterOS GUI?
Should I enable this feature on any Mikrotik interface that I can whether it is a router, switch, ap ect.?
Loop Protect is off by default. Has anyone seen any adverse effects after enabling this feature?
It is my understanding that ‘Send Interval’ is a way to detect a looped cable and ‘Disable Time’ is the duration that the port will be disabled for before being re-enabled. Please correct me if I am wrong.
I am currently running bench tests with the Loop Protect feature but would love to hear from other people who have implemented this into a production environment.
Appreciate your time,
Thanks.
