I upgraded my WRAP box from 2.9.27 to 3.0beta7. I had correct licence installed before. Just after upgrade AP booted without licence:
ROUTER HAS NO SOFTWARE KEY
----------------------------
You have 22h28m to configure the router to be remotely accessible,
and to enter the key by pasting it in a Telnet window or in Winbox.
See www.mikrotik.com/key for more details.
Current installation "software ID": xxxx-xxx
Please press "Enter" to continue!
I tried system licence update, but got this message "status: “Failed to set new key (invalid key (6))”"
So I downgraded to 2.9.42, but still no licence key. System licence update got me new message “Invalid payment method!”.
Unfortunately I don’t have backup of my old licence file. Is it possible to restore my old licence key somehow? I didn’t formated my AP, just uploaded packege and executed system reboot or system package down.
Thanks for any clue.
I had a same problem. Didn’t even try to talk to Mikrotik about getting a new license. Problem is not in your licence. During upgrade/format procedure system id changed. License is directly connected to system ID. Let’s be real. There is no way to prove that it was an accident nor that anyone could believe that. That is why i didn’t try to get new license for free. You need new license Fortunately, it is not so expensive (not that i wouldn’t like it to be even cheaper )
gadja,
as long as your software id hasn’t changed (which it won’t when you re-install via the netinstall tool or do an upgrade) you can use your old license key. You can get it from the MikroTik account server (when purchased directly from MT) or from the reseller you bought the license from.
You software id WILL change, though, if you do stupid things like formating/repartition the disk/flash with a standard tool (so, from Windows, Linux etc.). This is clearly stated in the docs, though
