I have 2 units that are used to link 2 a network to an broadband connection. Yesterday the system gave a little trouble and we had to make changes.
Initially we had the unit plugged into the BB connection as an ap bridge and the second unit as a station. It worked like this for 3 months. But, then something when crazy and it stopped working.
We then found that the main unit needs to station pseudobridge and the other in station. So, we changed it. But, now another problem has arisen.
Both units will not see any other networks let alone themselves. Main unit is wlan and lan bridged. Second unit is wlan and lan bridged.
If I run a scan they see absolutely nothing. Really strange. But the interesting part is that under bridge it says the wlan1-gateway is disabled port.
All these 2 units do is talk to each other to bring a small network for a client to the BB connection. Their ips are 172.17.0.2 and 0.3. BB GW is .1 and thats it. But, the link wont connect.
Can anyone advise how I can get this link online please?
The disabled part under the bridge is just because the wireless link is down, it would come right back up when the wireless link is back. You would see the same with you connect or disconnect your laptop from a wireless card connected in a bridge.
Since your wireless signal is gone you have to narrow it down around the wireless part. Check your connector, antennas, check if they are aligned correctly, check if there is a lightning problem. (not a problem here at the moment with the first 10cm of snow today)
You could also try to connect to the AP a little bit closer just to see if you could catch the wireless signal. Interference? Is there any new providers in the area blocking down you link? What was the SNR before? like 30-40 or like ~10dbi? I mean is it likely that the link with a little bit of noise, of course antennas or bad wiring should disappear?
thanks for replying. The issue only arose when i made a change to the station mode and the pseudo station mode. The hasnt been lightning, etc. I did try go closer to the antenna and see if its working but i dont pick up a thing. Its something else that seems disabled.
Could you clarify the mode you use on both sides. ??
Remember that only bridge and ap bridge is transmitting modes, and that station, stations wds and all the other stations modes is client sides. It is techniques to solve this with AP (bridge and bridge AP) modes on both sides, but I would not recommend this unless you are experienced with this kind of setup.
I don’t know, but if you talk the same units here it all makes sense. Two stations can’t talk to eachother. One unit always has to be AP.
Running a wireless scan will only show AP’s, so it makes sense you see nothing now if the original AP is accidentaly changed into an ‘station’.
Also, if you scan, make sure you scan in the right band, and that you don’t have wireless scan list enabled.
