I have RB-751G unit at home. I have internet connection up-to 130 Mb. When I connect my laptop thru ethernet interface and lunch speed test the bandwidth is around 114Mb. When I use WLAN interface I can get at most about 20-30 Mb (when I’m close to the device). I tried different settings (channel number, 20Mhz or 40Mhz width) and still the same. The number of devices connected to the router is around 3, but other devices are printer/cellphone.
I have the other router in that room (Thomson from my ISP). On the same channel I’m able to get arout 40-50Mb.
Am I missing something? Or that are just the limits of that device?
Using the Wifi connection to rate your speed is not the way the go. You have to use a cable connection between your device and the Mikrotik to have a real impression of the transfer speed.
When you check in the connection data of the Wifi you can see what you base connection speed is. This can differ and your ISP router can have better Wifi than the Mikrotik.
As I wrote when I connect to the ethernet interface of Microtik the speed is decent and similar to the declared by the ISP. But when I disconnect cable and connect thru wifi, the speed is much lower (at most 20 Mbits). Computer stays 1 meter away from the router, is that all that Microtik can? Is it possible to tweek the speed? I’m running “AP Home” settings (almost default) with WAP2 AES protection.
The ISP router is Thomson router (TWG870), Microtik provides much better signal strength/range in my apartment but the connection speed is much lower (even very close to the device). I don’t understand why?
