Low Cogent IP Transit Speed with CCR1016

Dear friends,

we have one 42U rack inside MedNautilus Datacenter. For BGP router we are using a CCR1016 with multiple copper connections with several carriers. We have an issue with Cogent’s 100Mbps uplink…

We have made hundreds of bandwidth tests using iperf between our servers and other servers from Hetzner, Serverloft, Rackspace, DigitalOcean, etc… When we are running iperf even with one only connection we are getting almost all the available bandwidth ~65Mbps! For more than one connection the tests show 100Mbps full speed!!!

The problem is that anywhere else I try to download anything I get very very low speed ~1Mbps… For example I have test many CentOS Mirrors from all over the world and I can’t get more than 1Mbps…

Cogent’s connection looks great because all the iperf tests from all over the world looks fantastic !!!

Have you any idea???

Thank you all!

Unless you are connection tracking and/or trying to QoS specific traffic with queue’s, then it wouldn’t be the CCR’s fault. A packet is a packet when doing basic routing/forwarding, so the fact iperf works through the router and at proper speed says to me the router is working. Perhaps it is poor peering to the sites you are trying or an issue upstream of your own equipment.

Post a full export if you like and we can see if anything could be affecting your traffic with prioritsation or anything but it is doubtful.
