Low Power devices get disconnected. (log: disconnected, extensive data loss).

We are running two Mikrotik routers (951 and 751) connected via an ethernet trunk. Each radio has its channel fixed and separated. 3 Virtual APs on each system provide 3 SSIDs, each tied to a different VLAN.

The problem we are seeing is with regards to low power devices getting kicked off the wireless network. We are seeing iPhones and thermostats getting kicked off where the Mikrotik generates the “disconnected, extensive data loss” message.

Coverage area is small (1,500 square feet)

We then placed an Apple Airport Extreme (1st generation) in bridge mode and hung it off one of the Mikrotik routers. We have seen no problems with the devices configured to connect to the Apple Airport Extreme, including the low power thermostat.

As I mentioned, each radio is set to a fixed channel. Pre-amble mode is set to both. Everything else is pretty much default. RouterOS: 6.27. Firmware 3.22

What does the Apple Airport Extreme have that allows it to reliably maintain a connection with the lower powered devices?

Can anybody point me to a config guide or suggested changes to the config?
