Hi,
few days ago I’ve bought RB2011UiAS-2HnD-IN unit instead of my broken Ubiquiti EdgeRouter Lite.
My connection is 300/30mbps FTTH from Slovak Telecom connected to Huawei 8240H (it’s paired to ISP network so this unit can’t be replaced), and then on 1gbps LAN port of this GPON ONT unit I can make PPPoE connection to connect to internet.
So I’ve upgraded my new Mikrotik unit to last RouterOS and also last firmware, set-up PPPoE, setup 2 port forwarding for 1 TCP and 1 UDP port for bittorrent network and start using it.
When I run standard web-based speed test I can get full speed about 310/34mbps which is fine and same as on Ubiquiti router.
But with bittorrent network, performance is quite low and I’m not sure if there is something I need to configure to make it better. Performance on bittorent network is dependent on how many torrents I’m downloading and also how many connection per torrent I set.
With 1 torrent running and limit 50 connections per torrent I can get result about 250mbps downstream.
With more connections or more torrents with 50 connections average speed is between 10-15MB/s, depends on how many connections (when there is 10MB/s speed on 5-6 torrents I can see about 500-600 connections in connection tracking and CPU load is maximum 50%, free memory always more than 100MB).
Fasttrack is enabled but I’m not sure if its working also for PPPoE (counters on Mangle tab for fasttrack are showing it’s working so I guess there isn’t problem).
I don’t have any additional rules in firewall or mangle (only default, and also for PPPoE there is MSS change rule in Mangle that can’t be removed).
I know that Ubiquiti’s EdgeRouter Lite is quite more powerful unit with hardware acceleration and until I enabled hardware offload on edgerouter it was also slow on pppoe connections.
So my only question is if this performance and behaviour is quite normal for this unit and only way to get full speed on torrents is buying more powerful unit or there is some “magic” settings for my unit that can make performance better.
What is confusing for me is that there is only 50% cpu load so this is why I’m not sure about answer and also I’m new to RouterOS and mikrotik devices.
Thanks for any answers and advice, feel free to ask any additional questions.
