LTE Interface inactive / duplicate LTE interfaces on Chateau LTE12 – RouterOS 7.19.4 and 7.20.2

Hi everyone,

we’re running into recurring LTE interface issues on multiple MikroTik Chateau LTE12 units with different RouterOS versions.

  • On RouterOS 7.19.4, each device shows only one LTE interface, but it’s inactive and cannot be used.
When trying to set the operator manually, we get the following error:
/interface lte set operator=26202 0 failure: Device is inactive!

The interface cannot be enabled or disabled - it remains inactive.

  • On RouterOS 7.20.2, the routers suddenly show two LTE interfaces, even though the Chateau LTE12 has only one SIM card slot.
The second LTE interface reports “roaming not allowed” but can be disabled.
The first LTE interface, however, cannot be disabled or enabled, same as in 7.19.4.

We’re seeing this issue across many Chateau LTE12 devices, not just a single unit.
Reboots, and firmware updates do not resolve the problem.

Has anyone else encountered this or found a solution?

Thank you in advance

Can you remove these interfaces?

Yes i can, but i’m curios about why it happend

Did you upgrade from a very old v7 version? I remember a changelog where it says that mbim modems are now auto registered.

We’ve been on 7.19.4 for quite a while; we upgraded from 7.16.x. At first, there was no second or inactive interface. It basically happened overnight, which makes me curious.

Is this Chateau LTE12 old or LTE12 2025?

I think they are about 3-4 years old

I own a Chateau LTE12 for many years as well (since 7.0.3 or something). Nver happend to me.

chateau lte12 2025 - ros 7.20.2.

Everything Ok at the start, but when i add romon feature from: system/device-mode/update romon=yes

same problem occurs, two lte interfces, one inactive, cant deleted.

So i default reset it, and changed the mode from home –> basic (witch contains romon) and everything works OK.
