LTE MAC can't be changed

I’ve been trying to change the LTE6 MAC on my wAP ac LTE6 and I can’t figure it out. For some reason, it won’t let me change it even though I give it the technically right command:

/interface lte set lte1 mac-address=address

Is there a fix for this, like maybe an AT-chat command to send directly to the modem? I also saw that the passthrough feature might be able to help, but that uses a special passthrough-mac instead.

On ROS 6.47.8:

*) winbox - do not allow MAC address changes on LTE interfaces;

Regards.

*) winbox - do not allow…

So this could work through SSH? I could also downgrade it to before 6.47.8. EDIT: It looks like it doesn’t work over SSH. I guess I’ll have to downgrade.

Hey,

I believed if you search the forum there’s a lot of people asking if you can change the mac address of the LTE modem and I believed the short answer is no, I also try it on my LHGG-LTE gear and unfortunately it doesn’t work

but WHY you try change mac ???
At many AT Command manuals I not see that option possible.
I understand some people to try change IMEI of lte interface becase imei is used by ISP to determine a vendor+SN of lte device.
WHY ?

This is actually something I’d like to do more, since in the US many SIM cards have limits when used with a “hotspot” device. However, with the wAP being a “hotspot” itself, this is a non-starter so I need to make it look like something else.

This means you not want change mac address, then close this thread.

You want change IMEI at R11e-LTE6? Read: http://forum.mikrotik.com/t/changing-sxt-lte-imei/131901/1 and http://forum.mikrotik.com/t/production-mode-for-r11e-lte6/141107/1

On most US carriers if you are using a pre-activated SIM just use mangle to set the TTL and it still falls under mobile data.

What’s “production mode”?

one of step to change imei but vendor (MikroTIk company) block that possibility and display error about that mode and all people ask about that mode.
That ever this is, we , normal users , cannot change IMEI at this unit. That’s why I mostly use separate Quectel modules, they just work, they not have any of “childhood problems”.

Would a Quectel or Telit 5G modem work as a drop-in? I’d expect that I could change the IMEI with either, but drivers could be an issue.

What it’s a “drop-in” ?
Quectel give you change of imei.

It means that I can install the modem and RouterOS will work with it without a lot of reconfiguration.

Drop-in is like out-of-box - ok.
