Hello! Has anyone tried replacing the built-in Wi-Fi NIC in the RB4011 for an LTE NIC?
Thank you very much!
There is no SIM slot. If you get a mPCIe SIM spacer it then is going to hit the Capacitor and not be able to be seated. Even then I don’t know if RouterOS would recognize it.
You could possibly use “Mini pci-e to usb3.0 adapter” (as found on ebay for $3, one with just USB 3.0 connector on it and few SMDs/switching powersupply chip, make sure it’s really USB output and not pcie-1x signal as used for Pci-e riser cards), short USB cable and then “Mini PCI-E to USB Adapter With SIM card Slot” (again ebay, ~$8) so it can be put anywhere in the case and have SIM card slot.
The ROS build for ARM does have LTE drivers in it, so it will probably work, but it’s not guaranteed (could be explicitly disabled for some reason on RB4011).
If you decide to try it, let us know how it went… it would be an interesting experiment.
