MAC Hotspot authorization ??

Maybe its me, and maybe this is not possible; but i’m going to ask anyway!

Ok i have a wireless hotspot and most of my clients automatically authorize using mac. (this bit is fine  )

But when I use a bridge(hop) e.g to extend my wireless, the hotspot only ever see’s the mac of the bridge, as opposed to the clients mac.
This then makes mac authorization impossible, as all the clients appear to come from the same mac…

My bridge is simply configured to bridge wifi1 with wifi2.

The strange thing is the DHCP on my main hotspot is able to directly read the Mac of my clients regardless as to whether they are connected to the main AP, or connected to my bridge.

Can this be rectified?
Thanks for any comments.

Don’t know what kind of “bridge” you are using. If its not a WDS bridge (the only way to properly bridge a wireless client in 802.11x), then you can see some sort of MAC NATing. If you are using MT, create a WDS bridge and that should fix the issue! This is discussed in the hotspot section of my book.

Im not using WDS, wifi1 is set to client and wifi2 is AP and i have bridged them using the bridge command.

Thanks for the tip about your book

Hence why you are seeing what you are seeing. has to be WDS. ONly way to properly bridge 802.11x
