Related topic: Changed MTU of bridge, now can’t connect w/ Winbox [SOLVED]
My experience:
-
Lowering MTU (not L2 MTU) on Ethernet interface does NOT change actual MAC Winbox frame size. I’ve set MTU to 1300, and seen 1514 byte frames received in Wireshark. The same result with adding Ethernet interface to the bridge and lowering MTU on bridge interface.

Lowering L2 MTU (and setting PC MTU accordingly) leads Winbox to stuck with “Downloading descriptors…” message.
So my workaround is to have a dedicated Ethernet interface with default MTU settings. This interface doesn’t have IP address, and doesn’t participate in any bridge, I use it for out-of-band MAC Winbox connection only.
By the way, is there new version of terminal.exe (MAC Telnet client for Windows) somewhere available? Old version can’t login into post-6.43 RouterOS (due to some changes in security).
