You should try glterm instead of the apple terminal program. Much nicer. If you insist on using the apple one, it’s probably a emulation setting which can be set via environmental variables, or perhaps in the program’s menus.
after you have connected, resize the terminal window (slightly bigger). it will start working then. it looks like a macos leopard issue.
