Major problems with new x86 system

I just setup a new x86 based system for use as a Mikrotik router and I’m having major issues with it. I’m using an intel board, 1 GB of DDR, and a intel core duo 2.2 E4500 processor. I also have a crucial 1 GB CF card. I used netinstall on my win xp machine to install routeros onto the CF card. I then booted up the machine and routeros installed fine. I connected to it via winbox and that’s when i started noticing major issues. All of the menus are acting extremely slow. When I try to add an IP address it takes a long time to open up and after I type in the info and hit “ok” it just stays on the screen forever. When I try to open up a new terminal window it just hangs there for a few minutes and then finally opens it opens it up. If i try to type something it takes forever for my letters to even show up.

I’ve tried both 2.9.50 and 3.2 and both experience the same symptoms.

What could be wrong here?

are you connecting with winbox using the IP or MAC address? Using MAC-winbox is very slow and troublesome on newer PCs it seems. Assign an IP to the box and connect that way and see if that helps - if that’s not already happening that is.

I was connecting via mac and you called it exactly. Once I switched to IP it started working fine. The weird thing is that I was able to connect to other routers via MAC with no problems.

possibly some more agressive intel drivers limited broadcasting or something ? who knows … but it is worse on the newer machines it seems like.

I have seen this from many systems…

I generaly get the OS installed, set the IP and then never connect via MAC again (if I can help it)…
