mAP 2nD - What can onboard USB port be used for?

Hey guys, I have been using a mAP 2nD now for a few years and it’s been great.
I’ve been looking at the USB port on it and wondering what i could be used for.
Ideally I was looking to plug in a USB stick/HDD and have the contents be shared on the LAN with connected devices. Is this possible?

Yes, you can do that. Or you can power the mAP with a USB power bank, and put it in your backpack. Then you can pay for some kind of airport Hotspot, and share the purchased connection with your friends with the mAP

Don’t expect some crazy performance, though. The CPU will choke easily when transferring even small files.

Also, SMB is known to have serious security issues.

In conclusion, I don’t recommend doing it. Been there, done that, not worth it.

What version SMB is it?

is there some kind of Y-Cable avail to power the mAP via power-bank and use the USB-Host for a serial-USB-adapter at the same time ?

I’ve successfully used mAP 2nD with 3G USB-modem powered by USB OTG Y-cable. The power from male USB-A goes into female USB-A port and OTG-microUSB, and the data pins from last one goes into female USB-A, communicating with modem.

thanks … nice … will see if I can scramble up some money to become a mAP-owner
