I thought it was 1w for 5.8 and 4w for 2.4
but I am getting told is also 4w for 5.8

So what’s been suggested to you is half correct. The 5GHz ISM band is split into two parts in Australia - lower end is indoors, the upper end is outdoors. In the US I think there’s a middle part that is either indoors/outdoors.
I haven’t found anything regarding the newly released spectrum - I’m guessing it’s still going through the paperwork machine…
